I had a good look at two possible roads today, near Caistor in North Lincolnshire. Both are marked on the map, but are non "B" roads with not too much traffic.
1) Take the A46 north from Market Rasen for about 2 miles, then turn right for Claxby. Take the right turn as you enter the village of Claxby, and this then climbs to the top of the Wolds. The climb after the end of the village to the top is wide, steep, has several challenging curves, and fast sections, and is 0.5mile to the top. Disadvantages include a couple of house drives onto the road and a rarely used side road, all of which would need to be marshalled.
2) At the top, bear left and follow the road until it starts to drop into Nettleton (the villade is just off the A46, a bit further north), after about 2miles. This drop is smooth, fairly wide, steep and has some challenging fast corners and straight bits. It's about 0.5mile long. Disadvantages include an official car park part of the way down, on the left, and a footpath that joins at one point. The start is nice and open, but the finish is a little bit tight, at just above the village of Nettleton. This course passes NO entrance drives at all!
Final Comment(s): Good radio communications would be vital on both these courses as the finish is not visible at the start. Perhaps we could do the two courses in one day, as they are only few minutes drive from each other?
Others now are needed to survey these course proposals, and report back.
And the rest of you out there....Keep looking!
