Hey Dudes,
Kelvin Law has just e-mailed me with details of what looks like a possible new road, AND it's near Traws. Use the link

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=285000&Y=230000&width=700&height=400&client=&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&scale=50000&out.x=3&out.y=9 to have a look at it.

I'll copy his description below:

At a place called Llywel (typical welsh name) theres a road leading up to a red dotted line. This is the path.
The path consists of two roads, one up and one down running along side with a high verge inbetween the roads. the run is about 1:20 mins long and we managed 50mph on our luges (we use normal skate boards, with very tight trucks) so the road would be even quicker. It starts off fairly steep then levels off which is annoying but then just drops, has loads of sweeping corners which are flat out at 50 but I dont know at higher speeds!! The bottom few coners (chicane and sweeping right at the end, with a wall enclosing a cemetary!!) are the quickest where 50 was obtained. This is the best street luge course we have ever been to and my description doesnt really give it justice. The road is normal width and made of very very smooth surface that is very grippy, we couldnt push the baords side ways on the road!! Plenty of grip even in the wet, which is our specialty!!!
If you could close both sides of the rouad off you could have people going down either side as the runs start and end at the same level but have varying gradients at different points!!

One other thing I might not have mentioned, on the map there is a red dotted line indicating the military zone!!!
This means that army trucks go up and down the road, but this is not very often at all and since the road is one way on either side you can tell when the road is clear. The army boys stopped to watch and congratulate us!!
This means you probably wont be able to block both sides of the road. Up near the top there's a place to put two cars on the middle verge which is very handy. Oh, watch out near the bottom as the farmer crosses the road get to his farm but we only saw him doing this once.

So there we are.........

Interesting, and must be worth a look next week end?

Cheers,

Derek Round
