John - hey thanks for the heads up on the 28th LA book - I note the author is Gary Joiner, head of the Friends of Mansfield and the man who has done the most to save the battlefield from the Coal Mine. Gary knows ALOT about the Red River Campaign and authored several other studies on the list.

The 1st La Cav (US) book is outstanding...thrilling is a good description. The Red River was their big deal and I had hoped we could get some US cav for the event to depict these guys - there is no better background material.

One last note - there is a Master's Thesis on the 15th Texas which does have some good demographics and pretty good bibliography, but in terms of the nitty gritty stuff we are looking for is not as good as Barr's book on Polignac's Brigade, Petty's Journey to Pleasant Hill or I suspect Joiner's 28th LA book John intros here.
