There are several younger girls who have never won a preliminary. Who is up and coming to look out for?

Shelby Andrews. Surprised she hasn't won one yet.

She seems consistently strong. What is her setback?

Like with all contestants it's a numbers game, a contestant has to present herself in front of enough panels of judges until she is in front of the right combination of five people looking for what she presents. Sometimes that happens for a contestant on her first attempt, sometimes it happens on the 20th. I think the girls who do well early are not only polished, fit, and talented, but they know how to quickly read the judges in interview and can adapt well to shifting gears to make that connection with the judges in interview. The selection of judges will have a huge influence on the pageant outcome because it is up to their likes and dislikes that results in the selection of the winner.

She is young but will have her time. These local pageants are excellent practice and much better than mock interviews. Winning the first prelim they enter is good in that they are going to Miss Alabama but then their mock interviews are not the same. There are girls like Shelby Andrews, Thomason Bryan, Conleigh Gilmore, Charlton Locke and others that will win one if they keep improving in each pageant they enter. Timing is everything.

whatever happened to Allison Farris? Swimsuit needed work, but she's very intelligent and talented. Plus she's half asian and Miss Alabama pageant rarely ever has Asian contestants

or just not interested... favoritism is rampant with Miss AL pageant... Allison should have placed when she won talent... as should have Chassidy and Boni

Why does everybody keep forgetting Cora Lynn Griffin. She is new but good. and look great in her bathing suit. And she is really smart.

Chassidy and Boni didn't place because they lack warmth and the outgoing personality required for the job.

Oh, and Anna Laura and Ashley Davis were? So you'd rather have someone with bad talent and sort of an airhead.. like one of the past winners who only won because of her "life story".

And Chandler is an absolutely terrible public speaker, although she may have "warmth" you speak of.

You don't really perform your talent at appearances-unless you are a singer- so I'd rather have a girl with a great personality and sense of humor, who can connect with different people as my Miss Alabama.

I COMPLETELY disagree. And yes, I know the girls very, very well. Especially on Ashley; the worst choice for Miss Alabama in a very long time.

Ashley, Anna Laura and Chandler were all very good Miss Alabamas during their year. I do not always agree with the winner in June but I always come to understand how someone won. They have to connect with the judges panel in a special way that the panel can see them doing the job of Miss Alabama.

By warmth do you mean fake and kissing butt? People have different personalities if we're going off warmth than Keleigh Edwards should never be allowed to compete she's cold as a fish! Boni and Chassidy may not be a bubbly as you want but that doesn't mean they won't make a good Miss Alabama. They were both sociable with the girls at Miss AL. For the record, Chandler is not a very warm and fuzzy young lady. ALB has personality but it seems very fake, although she has toned it down since winning.

Meg was the best choice in years! She's not cold/standoffish, overly "SoUtHERrn BeLLE"/boring, high maintenance/phony, air-head/no talent, and she's a good public speaker! We've had some of the worst choices for Miss Alabama in the past 6 years! No wonder they never placed in top 10!

exception being Brunell because she's an excellent public speaker.

2010 and 2011 were the dark ages....

hopefully we're over that and Meg gives a new outlook on who gets handpicked by Nan for Miss AL...

And yet Miss Alabama is routinely in the Top 15. Trash the board all you want, but it looks like they are pretty successful in preparing the winner for a fair shot at the top.

Why is KeLeigh so important to you? I like her - at least you don't wonder if she's taken a xanax because she's so bubbly she's off the wall. Those people make ME want to take a xanax. In my opinion, KeLeigh is a quiet classic southern lady who doesn't demand all the attention.

Generally speaking southern pageant people think all girls should be the same. They would prefer a bubbly, sweetie pie white woman as a winner but when that doesn't happen they have a hard time dealing with the outcome. For example, ALB was a true southern belle, she was in your face personality in spades but most thought it was very fake. Next, you have Ashley Davis she came across as a pageant patty with no talent although she was pretty and very warm and articulate. Courtney Porter, she is as country and southern as they come but she's relatable and had a decent talent but I personally hated her voice and didn't see her winning. The worst Miss Alabama in the 2000's was Liz Cochran hands down! Next worse was Amanda Tapley they crowned her too early and she wasn't ready for the job.

I am not related to ALB, however, as someone who has known her for her entire life, I must say that her personality is genuine. Anyone who has been around her has seen the same personality every single time. I don't believe that anyone could fake being that warm and full of personality 100% of the time.

How did a thread about new contests become a thread about the past? Miss Alabama 2016 will be an interesting pageant to watch with so many new faces. Looks like Samford and Troy will also be sending new contestants to state. Looking forward to having a new roster.
