Sometimes that happens for a contestant on her first attempt, sometimes it happens on the 20th. I think the girls who do well early are not only polished, fit, and talented, but they know how to quickly read the judges in interview and can adapt well to shifting gears to make that connection with the judges in interview. The selection of judges will have a huge influence on the pageant outcome because it is up to their likes and dislikes that results in the selection of the winner. These local pageants are excellent practice and much better than mock interviews. Winning the first prelim they enter is good in that they are going to Miss Alabama but then their mock interviews are not the same.There are girls like Shelby Andrews, Thomason Bryan, Conleigh Gilmore, Charlton Locke and others that will win one if they keep improving in each pageant they enter.
