Subject: Yesterday was snarkfest Wednesday...today in honor of Veteran's Day...what makes you grateful?

Well first and foremost I feel blessed to live in the Unites States and I am extremey grateful for all our vets and active duty members who make it possible for me to sleep safely in my bed at night.
Mostly I am grateful to my Dad who was to me the most amazing man and greatest soldier I ever knew. He went to Vietnam and after he came home voluteered to go back because he couldn't leave any of "his" men behind. All soldiers were part of my Da's Army. He was born in Ireland and joined the US army when he was just a young boy. He stayed in for 32 years.
He passed away two years ago this month and I miss him something fierce.
Thank you Dad for all you did for our country and teaching me what honor and integrity stand for. Love you

My Daddy, an Army corporal in the European theater during WWII, a man with humor in the face of conflict or a crisis. Would make us laugh instead of panic, like during the earthquake of 1971. My uncle, a Marine drill sergeant at Camp Pendleton during Vietnam, often visited my Daddy. He was a very soft spoken and calm man, it was hard to imagine him as mean and tough. My Mother for having married my father and remained together until he passed away in 1980, and for welcoming her cousin, the drill sergeant, to spend many weekends with us during the late 60s. It was my uncle who was very instrumental in arranging the 21-gun salute, the casket draped with the U.S. flag at Daddy's funeral. Bravery and perseverance come to mind. They all make me proud.

was in WWII in the Army Air Corps (prior to the existance of the Air Force). He wanted to be in since he was little - my favorite story was how this guy in uniform came to the door and asked for Ed, and my grandma asked if he was sure, and produced my 7 year old dad who'd filled out the paperwork to join the army air corps back then! Then when he did get in, they had them on a train from Chicago with the windows all closed/darkened, and they'd stop every once in a while to let some off for one base or another; he had NO clue what his destination or armed force would be - there were a handful left for the last stop which was in Florida for the army air corps - they opened the windows and doors to palm trees and sun; he was in woolen long underwear but said he'd gone to Heaven!

My Grandpa was in the Army during WWII.
I have a nice picture of him looking all handsome in his uniform.:-)
I am grateful to all the service people who over the last
century, gave their time and some their lives so that we
could be free.
God Bless America!

Just a simple text - "Sending you much love on this veterans' day. Love, Aunt chez"

and I actually got a response - drum roll please - it's huge ...

Darren's response was "Thank you"

LOL

We have all kind of Uncles, cousins & nephews was in/are in the military. I'll never forget when the "coach" opened up the back door, and the honor guard saluted my Dad's flag draped casket. I realized what my Dad was and how many people he belonged to. From that point on, he belonged to them, and they accompanied him to his final resting place, at the military cemetary he is buried at.
