I used to be in the camp of female doctors for female issues, but with all of the infertility crap we've been through I've now determined that I just want a good doctor, period. I've had great female OB/GYNs and terrible ones. My current fertility specialist (RE) is male and a godsend. I adore him. He's gentle, funny but also seriously concerned with getting us pregnant. I wouldn't go to anyone else. My current OB is female and wonderful too, but prior to her I had a disastrously bad female OB.

Short version of my advice: try out a couple of docs and find the person who best suits your needs and style.

because you are right. It depends on the doctor, and their committment to their patients. This is good advice...I'm going to try a chicka doctor, and maybe another dude...then go with the one that 'feels' right ... (teehee).
