Subject: Broken Heart's and Spirits

I wrote this poem for my mother as she struggled with surgery for Lung Cancer. It was intented to give her hope. To understand she was not alone in her pain. I wish this sentiment to all those touched by this most awful event. My prayers go out to the Ogonowski family as they mourn the loss of John.

The Angle By Your Side

I often wonder if an Angel is
Just as it would seem,
Like those depicted in our world
On Cards and artwork and as figurines.

They all seem so very different
In color, shape and size,
But seem so very similar
So predictable, without surprise.

But my own theory regarding Angels
May not be the same as most,
I do not evision one as winged and flying
Or whispering by like that of a ghost.

Angels may come in forms that surprise us
Ones so common we may overlook,
They may even walk amongst us
Engage us in conversation or provide a caring look.

I believe Angels are with us
Around us in everything we do,
I believe they work through us
To strengthen our faith and guide us too.

I think they provide us compassion
To see beyond our own needs,
To lend a hand or give support
Or evoke feelings and passions indeed.

So when you're scared or hurting
Or feeling just a little blue,
Open up your heart and faith
So your Angel can comfort you.

And if you truly believe in others
The way they do in you,
You will have many Angels
To hold you tight and see you through.

So the next time your feeling a bit alone
Or shed a tear to cry,
Please reach out beyond your heart
To the Angel by your side.
