When I was a young'n, every noon we said the pledge of allegiance and toasted our president "Ike" with a glass of milk on the Big Brother Bob Emery(not sure of the spelling) Show. (this was acceptable on TV). We opened the school day with the pledge and the Lord's prayer. When we misbehaved, we were taken in the hall by the teacher and given a whack on the wrist or butt by the teacher (been there done that). Yes this was a public school. And when our parents found out they backed the teacher and we got "it" again. Was I tramatized by this? If you call having respect for others, a love of this country and it's people, and a love of God, I guess I was! When I'm polite to people today, or go out of my way to help them, people look at me like I've got two heads.(sorry that's just the way I was raised)When I went through the war years of sex and drugs on a college campus, I passed on them, although it was tough.(that's just the way I was brought up). When my friends and associates "steal" things like cable Tv service (even though they rationalize it) I just say my mother taught me better. So what's the point of this tyrant? The way we teach our children both as parents and a state shapes the future of the country. If we love our children and our country, then it all starts with us doing our job as parents by teaching love, respect, and discipline and not taking the easy way out(the avenue of least resistance). Maybe it's time for this country to bring back the old fashion values which made it so strong (even if it isn't politically correct)
DUH!
