The relocation of stay and play to veterans park was part of the move to improve public safety in Dracut.
Selectman O'Loughlin,myself and the fire chiefs past and present did a study of our response times on fire department calls from the collinsville and navy yard stations.It was clear that we could not serve the town well from these locations.It should be noted that the old fire houses were set up for the volunteer fire departments of our past and were not spaced to cover the entire town
Last year we built the east-dracut station and this year the new central station.Why Pleasant street? When you do the numbers,that location is perfect.Each and every resident can be reached in about three minutes.Three very critical minutes when you factor in that most of our calls are life safety related.Surviving a heart attack depends on getting treatment quickly.Our fire department is the first on the scene in most cases.The long and short of it is we needed the site for a higher priority. We hope you will all find the new play site a good one.
