Subject: Thanks (slightly late!) for all the help at the Concert in the Quarry

A “Ton” of Thanks (Pun intended!)

The Concert in the Quarry was magnificent! The US Navy Band was great! The day took more than two years of vision and imagination and a few short months of intense planning and organizing. The people on the concert committee met every two weeks for the three months prior to the event. This was definitely not a one-person event. I had the help of many people and the day would not have run as smoothly without them.

John Keating deserves so much credit for all the thought and energy he put into making the concert successful. He, Ron Del Genio, and the entire crew from PJ Keating Company did an amazing job preparing the quarry for the concert. It looked awesome!

Thanks go to Harvey Gagnon and his work with coordinating the buses, and the Laidlaw Company and all the bus drivers for providing transportation into and out of the quarry. The volunteers did a great job checking tickets and assisting with bus pick-up, as did the bus drivers who drove the handicapped buses into and out of the quarry. Thanks to Chief Panas, Chief DiRocco and Mike Buxton and their crews for everything they did. Thanks to Tom Keefe and the Community Police. Immense thanks go to Kathy Graham, Regina Mostone, and Louise Tremblay for handling countless details. Thanks to Dave Paquin, as Tercentennial Chairperson, who, along with the rest of the Tercentennial committee, has been working for the last three years on this event and many others so that 2001 will be an unforgettable year.

Thanks also go to Mark and Stephanie from Bob Paré Photography and Leon Leung for taking many, many pictures. We can’t wait to see them! Thanks to Bob and Gay Corey and Mike from the cable studio for filming. Thank you also to Ray Tremblay for musical entertainment and announcements throughout the day.

Special thanks go to the groups, and all of their volunteers, who coordinated the refreshment sales. It took an unbelievable amount of cooperation. The Concert Series and Festival of Lights Committees; Junior High and High School Band Boosters; and the Junior High, Campbell, Parker, Greenmont and Brookside Elementary PTOs went above and beyond in this respect.

Thanks to Jim Keefe, Dracut Ice, Shop & Save, Drake’s Cakes, Scola’s and the American Legion for their donations. Thank you to the groups who let us use their steamers and popcorn machines. And thanks to the wonderful businesses in town that distributed tickets for us and continue to sell merchandise for the Tercentennial Committee.

Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank Dennis Piendak for his enthusiasm and effort. He has been the committee’s biggest fan and deserves a lot of credit for the concert’s success.

I am very proud to be surrounded by such a group of dedicated people. Without them this day would not have taken place nor been as wonderful as it was!
