Subject: The Pipe Runs Through It

What is it? Is it a new street being developed? Is it a new bike path? What about a nature walk?

Sorry son, it’s none of the above. That was my answer to a handful of questions that were thrown at me while driving down Arlington, just off of Methuen. I looked at the front and back yards of homeowners as they displayed the scars of construction. Followed by the gigantic pathway that runs all the way into Pelham. Let me not forget the big blue bus. For a minute there, I thought Dracut was being invaded by the Partridge Family Reunion. Come to find out, it’s a source of transportation for the pipeline cowboys and cowgirls. (Just too bad the ole El Dorado Room wasn’t still open.)

Anyway, this construction of the gas pipeline replacement has put a facelift on some wooded areas, and may explain why crows and other wild creatures are invading the Kenwood section of Dracut. Never in my time in Dracut have I seen so many crows. You will see many deer, from doe to buck running across Methuen and Arlington. Not to mention the dozen of wild turkeys. I travel this route frequently, and have seen it all. I must say the doves are a nice touch. I love the wild animals, but this project has indeed pushed them into the area neighborhoods.

What is going to be done with the new open land that has been created by this project? Is it going to be left there to scar over and remain an ugly site? Can we transform it to create a nature walk from the Kenwood area to the new Vet Park? We do that; we may cut down on some of the speeders in the area. Take a walk, get the exercise, and enjoy the nature.

Don’t worry son, I’m sure they’ll find something to do with it. “Hey dad, how about an airport?” Son, don’t tell anyone you just mentioned that.

Truth.
