I think a sense of humor will take you a long way when reading his article (and in life).  After all, we do live in a town where cows, pigs, llamas, and horses make up a large part of the population.  Roadside vegetable stands, milk in glass bottles, and the aroma of manure in the springtime are things that Dracut residents have become familiar with.  When you tell people that you take your kids to the farm down the street to pet the cows I think the “backwoods hick” stereotypical comment is to be expected!  But, most of these "amenities" are what people love about Dracut and are fighting to keep alive.  If you’re offended by the occasional "hick" comment then either you are too worried about what other people think about you or you need to move to a town with less trees and more smog.

P.S. I’d just like to say for the record that I have never been cow-tipping and even though at one time I had a red Camaro up on cement blocks in by back yard – I do not like stock car racing!

-also, I did find it ironic when I read the article on LowellSun.com that Shaw Farm was running a banner advertisement at the top of the page as the column sponsor :-)
