The election that was just held on Monday May 7, was for the School Committee as well as the Board of Selectmen and other positions. It also approved the Community Preservation Act. The power plant issue was debated during late 1998 and throughout 1999. Seven public hearings / input sessions were held in the fall of 1999 and a special permit was approved by the Board of Selectmen in Dec. 1999.Since that time, the applicant has worked through the various state and federal approval levels and has obtained most if not all of the needed permits. Residents of Andover however, have appealed the Energy Facility Siting boards approval to the State Supreme Judicial Court. It is anticipated that the Court will hear the case in Sept. Development of the plant will only take place if the court renders a favorable decision.
