The follwoing is a post I placed on the Unmoderated Dracut Forum (http://www.voy.com/24485/) on this and other "Power Plant" issues. Sorry for the constant postings, but, someone needs to bring reality into fantasy sooner or later!!!

Ed :=)Mike oh Mike oh Mike!!!!!

I have been toying with the idea of introducing the concept of "risk" into this debate. Specifically, I was going to present typical risk that everyone assumes going through everyday life and not bat an eyelash at. Examples of this are driving the car (and in MA this is a HUGE risk, not only physical but chemical exposure from your and others vehicles), indoor air pollution (smoking, carpeting, pressboard furniture, etc.), and many others. All this risk taking adds up to a risk that harm or cancer or some other adverse impact will befall you. I am going to try to find a value to assign to these risks in order to compare to the possible risk associated with the proposed Nickel Hill plant.

As a rule of thumb, engineering projects tends to try to limit the risk associated with them to 1 in 1,000,000 chances. Lately, health risk studies have lowered the risk factor to 1 in 100,000 chances. These are the factors that the proposed Nickel Hill Project will be based on. Again, I will try to find the true factors if they are available.

What I am trying to convey here is that the chances you consciencly or unconsciencly take everyday (willing or not willing) add up to a much higher risk than the proposed Nickel Hill will every pose to anyone.

Again, this is only the begining of a debate that I hope will stimulate some valid reasoning in your and others thought process on this issue!!!

Also, the thought of a public recreation or public anything in the area that the proposed Nickel Hill facility is going to located makes me chuckle! Obvoiusly you have not been to the area where the facility is proposed to be! There is a 100-200 foot drop off into Brox's gravel pit within feet of the property line (talk about a liability issue for a public accesable site!) and ALOT of swampy land that should make for a nice breeding ground for mosquitos and other vermin!! My realistic view of the fantisy is not as rosy!

Finally, as part of the host communty agreement, Nickel Hill would contribute $50,000 ayear for 10 years towards purchase of open space in Dracut (Selectmen, correct me if I am off on the numbers). THAT IS $500,000 TOWARDS OPEN SPACE IN DRACUT! That should be enough for your utopian play area! But, it is not the money that will make your utopia come true, it will take effort and commitment! Qualities I saw a lacking during my years living in Dracut, save for a few (and you now who you are!).

Have a nice a day and OPEN YOUR MIND!

Ed :=)
