I realize this will probably go over like a case of flatulance in church but I've got to ask. When everyone goes home at night and they use their microwaves, computers, tv's, stereos, and lights; where do they think the power comes from?

What we are saying here is, "Yes, I want the power. We need to have power, but I want the impact of supplying that power to rest with anyone else but me. Better that some kids in Peoria suck down the fumes of a power plant. Not mine!!

This is a natural gas fired plant. How many homes in Dracut are heated with natural gas? Has the impact of all those homes burning natural gas ever cropped up on our radar screens before this? Of course not! We love our natural gas furnaces. I don't get what the hysteria is about.

Hey, I can understand people getting up in arms about the potential impact on property values. There again though, what we are saying in that instance as well is that We'll consume the resource without a thought to conservation but let the people in Peoria worry about their property values.

And it's not just the power plant. It's everything. We are now dependent on foreign oil becuase we use the most and don't want to risk drilling on our own land.

If you want to see something emblematic of our wasteful attitude, stand outside the Dunkin Donuts on a Satruday morning. A non-stop line of SUV's, minivans and cars with their motors running simply because people can't be bothered to A) make their own coffee, B)get out of the damn car and go into the store. I'll bet if you took air samples there the pollutant content would dwarf anything that plant will put out!

But... Nobody wants to hear that.
