I'm currently visiting my sister who is a busy concerned
voter. The Nickel Hill proposal brings up concern and
questions.As an environmentalist since I was a teen,having
studied environmental science,as a science teacher,and as
the adult leader of the Niles High School Ecology Club-I
am educated about the environmental impact of industry.

I know that not only humans, but all natural things are
impacted when an unnatural substance enters the air, water
and land. The greatest adverse impact is on the young, the
unborn and the weakened.Because you already have major
contributors to air pollution in your Valley you must
consider addition.Add another burst of daily chemicals
to rain down on the unsuspecting and you will invite
another sparrow die-off,more miscarriages,more childhood
asthma and more childhood leukemia.

Formaldehyde will be the worst possible air polluter.
Have you asked to see why it is necessary in natural gas?
why is it a pollutant, can it be filtered out or even
precipitated in the stacks? Ask to view the technology,
ask about alternatives?If you aren't a scientist,how can
you wisely decide this? How can you depend on consultants
who may not be impartial? Why not let the EPA or DEQ
officials further advise you?

Personally,if Nickel Hill cannot guarantee that no
formaldehyde will enter the air and carbon monoxide and
nitrogen compounds,hydrocarbon compounds and toulene
already in your air,I'd say no to Nickel Hill. The solid
guarantee would have to be free chemotherapy and asthma
inhalers for all,if this plant pollutes. They would need
to guarantee free health insurance for the working class
families of the area.

Air pollutants,in the form of chemicals that are gases
are not necessarily visible, yet they are there. You cannot
swipe the bottom of a stack and feel them. You can climb to
the top of the stack and test for emissions with an air
monitoring device.Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.It
can be produced when nat.gas is incompletely combusted.
(from California hearings: http://www.sdgedivest.com)

I don't believe that from what I've read these people are
not concerned about those who are dying due to the existing
nightmares involving coal-oil plants.I think they are not
at ease with the placement of this plant,it is as with many
others in the past a little to close to their children for
comfort. Please don't ignore thier concerns It is your job
to protect them as well.

Wishing you and your town a clean
safe future!!!!!
Eira
