I know we haven't even crowned our teen yet, but what are peoples' predictions for Miss WA this year?

Top 5 predictions:
1. Janae:(amazing dancer, but might be too young? Does she interview well?)
2. Kimball: LOVE Kimball. But will she be swimsuit-ready? Also, what is going on with her talent (is she roller skating, or rapping or doing a skit or what?)
3. Catherine: AMAZING talent. strong competitor.
4. Megan Leibold
5. Alicia Cooper

Here's what I'm thinking ....

Janae : She's got the look, the fitness, the talent, her style is great, she's well spoken, and has a solid platform.

Kimball : She's also got the look, lots of personality ... and if she looks like she did at Miss Seattle, I think she'll do better fitness wise than people seem to think - she was both curvy and FIT. Great talent, platform is iffy.

Catherine : She's putting everything into this one. Despite her fitness and talent, she doesn't really have "the look," in my opinion. I don't know her personally, but from what I've seen on stage in years passed, she can come across as fake.

Haley : She's beautiful, talented, STRONG platform, usually has a beautiful wardrobe. Fitness will most likely stand in her way, sadly. She would be a great state titleholder, and would do AMAZING things.

Kailee : She's fit, has a solid talent, and solid interview skills. She's a sweet girl, but doesn't quite exude confidence the way a state titleholder does. Maybe someday?

Megan could take the 5th spot too, but opera can be kind of boring, and she doesn't really have "the look." She can also come across as fake/conceited on stage, in my opinion.
Alicia Cooper's OSQ last year was very unimpressive. And I think she should have stuck with singing, personally. She's a great tap dancer but has a wonderfully unique voice. Her walk in swimwear at Sweeper was ... well, I cringed. So I'm thinking this isn't her year either. Again, maybe in the future.

Janae wears a 1-piece swimsuit. Will that hurt her at all?

I doubt it. Janae is sort of perfect in every other way. She will be hard for any of the other girls to beat.

Miss WA 2014: Janae (yay!)
1st runner up: Kimball (unless she can step it up just a bit, in which case she might have a shot at Miss WA)
2nd runner up: Catherine or Haley
3rd runner up: Catherine or Haley
4th runner up: Kailee Dunn

I know a lot of people do not like her but most don't know her. She is Mormon so her look and her personality are very conservative as a result.

I do believe she'll win but if she ends up as 1st Runner Up or even "lower" I'll be shocked. My reason for her to win is as follows.

Janae began competing in the Miss Tri-Cities pageant in 2010 but she didn't win and if I recall correctly she was 1st runner up. Yes lots of people were upset since her mother was and is on the Miss Tri-Cities board but it was the same with a few other girls who competed. Take this year's Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen pageant where the current TCOT's twin sister is competing while her mother is a volunteer. It was the same with Miss WAOT when the Renards began volunteering before Victoria was crowned and the subsequent year when Nicole won. By the following year the Renards took over the MWOT program and so because of their close ties to the Miss Tri-City pageant people have screamed it's rigged. I don't think it's rigged but the girls DO have a clear advantage.

Anyhow, Janae went back the following year and won TCOT 2011. By the time she won Miss WAOT in 2012 the Renards were in charge of the Miss WAOT pageant and so Janae had a lot of experience and training thanks to the Renards whose own daughters are pageant pros having won numerous pageants at local, state and national levels.

Let's face it, the Renards produces winners and if you work with the Renards you're going to be well trained. This doesn't mean it's fixed but it does mean that girls who train under or with the Renards and Stewarts are going to have a better chance of taking home a state title.

Dot Stewart allowed Janae to compete for Miss Tri-Cities despite being Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen. "Officially" Janae was only sitting in the meetings because she was the "current" Miss WAOT at the time but everyone knew as soon as WAOT 2013 was over that she's be participating fully in Miss Tri-Cities and where the competition would be tight between her and Cheyenne Van Tine who was also making a return to the WA pageant system. Chey took 1st and Janae took home the title.

If Janae does win Miss Washington she is the best hope for WA to place in the Top 5 at Miss America. I don't believe any of the other girls have a remote chance at Miss America other than Janae.

I agree. Janae is well trained and would be perfect for the state crown. She will also be brilliant at Miss America.

That being said, part of me hope she doesn't take the crown. I say that with admiration, because she is young. I hope she gets another year or two to mature (I know she's very nature already), because I believe she could have an amazing shot at Miss America.

Asking that I looked it up, Teresa Scanlan was 17 when she became Miss America 2011. Janae is 19, two years older than Teresa and has more experience as a titleholder than Teresa did. I think she'd do fine at Miss America. She's levelheaded, conservative in her behavior and I think can handle the pressure.

I'm not saying Janae can't, or that it's impossible. I'm well aware younger ones win all the time. All I'm saying is Janae is pretty great, and another year or two could only make her better.

I hope I'm making this clear haha. Believe me, I'm on her side 100%.

I really think we have some sleepers or dark horses this year. With miss America being so close if they don't look amazing in swim suit I don't think they will make it in the top ten. Jodee Hickman will be someone to watch. She has a great body and she plays the viola very well. Connie will do well, she is a runner so she will look fantastic and her vocals are always incredible. I've seen her interview and when she hits it, she knocks it out of the park. Lizzie has personality bursting out the seems much to rival kimballs. Tamara isn't in the best shape but her talent routine could win.

As for winners the trend for miss America is timeless and classic. With that being said I think it's between Janae, Megan, and Catherine. While I'm not a huge fan of Catherine ( she lacks stage presence to me except in talent). At least that is who we should send to America if we have any shot this year.

There were a couple of girls at Arrival who definitely do not appear to be swimsuit ready. Is it still possible to win state overweight? Have we ever had a Miss Wa or Miss America who won their titles overweight? Quite curious on this topic.

Be careful using the word overweight. Not being in tip-top pageant shape doesn't make a girl overweight. I've competed for years and am often told I'm too skinny for someone my height when I'm in "pageant shape" but am still one of the biggest girls on the stage. Girls still wind up starving themselves and living on laxatives to look like they do on stage. Casually saying a few of them look "overweight" when they're completely normal young women but don't necessarily stack up to girls who are naturally very thin (like Reina) can be very detrimental to a competitors psyche and can cause severe eating disorders, especially in girls who have struggled with them in the past.

That is not at all what the above poster was trying to say. No one competing is a fat girl. There are many not in swimsuit pageant shape. Its really that simple. And that is also a matter of opinion. Thank goodness you are out of the pageant system since this was such a struggle for you.
