First if all, welcome to the family :) the MAO program is extraordinary. You will be challenged, meet amazing people and become the awesome woman you were always meant to be. Second, I hope I can help you answer some of your questions... 1. Where to compete: this can be a tricky question. If you are attending school at central getting to and from rehearsals and appearances in Kitsap county with the Miss West Sound program may be difficult. This is a service organization and you have to be able to serve your local community. That being said, if you can make it work then go for it! CWU is located in Kittitas County, which doesn't have a local program. However, that may make you eligible to compete in the locals of neighboring counties. This is subject to that local directors approval. You can also skip the entire question of county-based eligibility and compete in the open pageants. 2. Where can you run: Assuming you meet all other eligibility requirements... Miss West Sound (Fall) Miss East King County (October)* Miss Pierce County (January/February)* Miss Yakima County (August 16, 2015)* Miss Apple Valley (August 16, 2015)** Miss Columbia Basin/ Eastside/ Rainier (March)** *neighboring county, subject to directors approval **state-wide open pageants 3. Other programs: This is totally not a problem. Miss America's age limit for the Miss pageant is 17 so naturally a lot of girls from other systems compete. I have seen NAM, USA, International Miss, Distinguished Young Women, Miss Zimbabwe, you name it. They are treated no differently than MAO girls. 4. Ah yes, swimsuit: Nervousness is understandable. I mean, how often do you walk on stage, mostly naked, in stilettos? As far as fitness advise goes DO NOT starve yourself. Drink lots of water; eat healthy, protein heavy foods, and hit the gym a few times a week. Weight lifting and resistance training will get you the "bikini body" before cardio so start their. At the end of the day it is only 15% of your score. Judges want to know you are healthy, not skinny, and that you are confident with the body you have the second you step on stage. I might also suggest you stay off of pageant forums. Occasionally you get great advise, but more likely you will leave feeling put down and upset. Some people use boards for information and other use it to shamelessly and anonymously hurt others. If you want any more info from a contestants perspective shoot me an email: mekc2015@misseastkingcounty.org Good luck and welcome to the family! It is an option for those attending CWU or those who reside in that area. The folks running that program are fantastic people. Anyone wishing to have more information regarding their eligibility for a local should visit www.misswashington.org and fill out the contact info. Mr. Mike Miller will let them know where they are eligible to compete. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
