Subject: Brazilian Elections

Dear Editor,

Over the past few weeks leading up to the elections, set to happen this Sunday, the news media has committed one of the most vile acts it can: report without facts. President da Silva of the Worker’s Party, a leader of social reform was accused of buying incriminating information about his opponent Geraldo Alkmin. President da Silva, the beloved leader of the people, denied the outrageous claims. They, the right wing opponents of da Silva (both the political party and their corresponding media), were clearly making an attempt to discredit the man who started the process of bringing Brazil into the 21st Century and for what reasons I can not understand.

President Luiz Imancio Lula da Silva is already expected to win the elections; indeed a man of the people who works for the people will have the support of the people. It is not as if my claims are unjustified. In a recent pole, President Lula was favored by over 50% of the polled with Geraldo at 30%. Even Brazilians living in America have made a strong show of support for Lula. They made it public that they (the supporters of Lula) would exercise their right as Brazilians to vote. I applaud these people, people who support the man who reformed the welfare system making it easier for the people in need to get the help the government owes them (and indeed a government is indebted to serve the people).

You, the right wing media, made a mistake by making such slanderous allegations against such a great man. So shame on them the publishers of elicit claims, the writers of lies and the believers of false tales. They have committed an injustice against an honorable man. May Lula serve his people for another strong term. May Brazil prosper for eternity and may the Worker’s Party forever serve the people.

Sincerely,

Bilal Malek
