Letter to the editor regarding the article "
As Brazilian election nears, scandals fade".

Dear Editor,

By the way President Luiz Inácia Lula da Silva is presented in the article, da Silva reminds me of many Presidents from the United States. For instance, many people have criticized President Bill Clinton, yet he was elected for a second term. The same goes for Bush. Obviously, something about him appealed to the American citizens. Criticism is simply a natural element to the way human beings act and will continue until the end of time, regardless of which nation is holding an election. At least the Brazilian people have the right to vote for President da Silva, even if his campaign was illegally financed(which there is no official proof).

I also agree with the point that the trucker Giderson Tenório Silva makes in the article. He states that “There has always been corruption in Brazil, but it was always kept under wraps, whereas now it’s coming out in the wash and is talked about on the news every day.” Corruption is another thing that is always going to happen especially because humans tend to protect themselves and want to dominate. Take the Watergate scandal for example.

What makes me believe da Silva has the potential to be a great President is the fact that he has social programs aimed toward the poor. Failure of the Zero-Hunger campaign did not stop his attempt to help his people. Instead, he worked with programs that were established by previous governments and did not abandon all of the old ways of the nation.

The only question that arises from the article is what is da Silva doing to appeal to the people who do not need the government aid?
