Subject: Brazilian Elections

Dear Editor,

With the election taking place within days, it seems that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is a shoe-in for a second term in office. The biggest factor in his re-election is his ability to relate to the people, since he also came from the peasant class working family. President da Silva knows this as his campaign song boast of his low-class roots and how is just like the rest of Brazil. Regardless of the many scandals that plagued his term in office, he is likely to be re-elected because of the positive changes he has made in the Brazilian economy. The poor of Brazil are going to look at the fact that he rose from their class to become leader that has changed their country for the better. Because of the delicate balance the Brazilian economy hangs in, it is a danger for the country to elect an unknown to office, regardless of the candidates past record. If President da Silva is re-elected for a second term in office, there are guaranteed hardships and scandals to come along in this still developing country. The world is not a perfect place and if the people of Brazil see da Silva as the one to bring their country out of the turmoil they have faced in past decades, than they should rightly re-elect him as president.
