Subject: Task 9 - Brazilian elections

Task 9 - Letters to the editor
I choose the Washington Times newspaper which published this article “Lula forced into runoff election”
http://www.washtimes.com/world/20061002-122843-2151r.htm

Brazilian people have a second chance to re-think about who is the better to govern Brazil, if is our present-day president Mr. Lula da Silva or the center-right candidate Geraldo Alckmin. Mr. Lula da Silva was the favorite candidate to win the first term with a large percentage, although everybody knows his party was involved in many scandals during this year; Mr. Lula da Silva got many votes, especially from the North and Northeast states. These two regions are populated by poor people and these ones are favored in his reforms. Mr. Lula da Silva created some programs such as “Zero Hunger” to help poor people. His ideas are excellent in theory but in practice it doesn’t work at all.We know that there are many people living withough food in their homes.
The other regions are trying to say “No” for Mr. Lula da Silva and his party. Mr. Lula da Silva had his chance but now Brazilian people deserve a better president and maybe Mr. Alckmin can work as well as he did when he was the governor of Sao Paulo. We don’t want to see more corruption scandals such as “mensalão”, dollars hidden inside underpants and so on. All these happenings give a bad image for Brazil.

Sincerely,
Vanessa Bohn
