Dear Eliane,

It is true that politics have come to involve a lot of scandals these days all over the world. One of the main focuses of this year’s Brazilian election has been the scandals of President Lula’s government. This obviously does not mean that the other candidates are completely innocent (despite the fact that their issues are often overlooked). Many candidates are willing to do just about anything in order to gain an edge over their competitors. It is true that corruption should not be accepted, but for the most part, it is impossible to find a completely innocent candidate to vote for. Often times, selecting a candidate in an election is considered choosing the “lesser of two evils”. It is sad that corruption is so unsurprising and sometimes even expected, however it is often a fact of reality during these times.
