Subject: Brazilian Elections

Despite the recent scandals and accusations against Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, I think that he will still win the election this week. The people seem not to care about the recent money dealings, considering about half the population is in support of him over his opponent, Geraldo Alckmin. Though if the scandals continue, I can’t imagine much support of anyone due to his being “so naïve.” The way I see it is if so many scandals have taken place, why is there still so much support for him? From reading the article, da Silva comes off as kind of questionable, from the money dealings and issues to the wiretaps found on three of the electoral tribunal’s telephones. People will always find some way to make any candidate of any election look bad, despite the party, but da Silva appears to have had this occur more than just this once. I don’t understand how the money scandal went from an idea in use by da Silva’s party to charges against him four years later by a father and son in the area. After reading another article on the 2006 election written only four days later, I read that da Silva does a lot for the people, and the article makes it hard to believe that he would bring about as many scandals as he has. The article took on a complete different view of the election and I’m torn as to which one to believe. I don’t have too much knowledge on the Brazilian elections, nor the candidates, so I guess only the election will tell.
