Subject: Brazilian Elections

Dear Editor,
I’m unfamiliar about much of the Brazilian Elections and the political issues in Brazil, however, a few things strike me as odd. First, how is it that Brazilians who don’t live in Brazil are allowed to vote in an election that seems to have little to do with them, being citizens of another country? (Apparently, Brazilians living in America are able to vote in a Brazilian election. This strikes me as being somewhat desperate for votes.) Second, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has had his share of mistakes and scandals. This is true of every human being, but my point is similar to the candidates for government positions in America: Suddenly those who bashed them will support them even as they claim to have brought hurt to their economy or have done nothing. And this is true of elections all around the world, as I see it. Why do people support candidates who they believe do little to improve the lives of the majority of people? It comes down to it as who is the lesser of two evils. With the new scandal in recent history, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva still is expected to receive at least 50% of the votes; so apparently, he is the lesser of two evils.
