Subject: Life? What's that?

http://www.teenadviceonline.org/archive/18.html

There is a big difference between science and religion, the rational versus the believed. Unfortunately, with things like life and death, choosing a side is hard. Science is what we know and can prove, religion is what we believe, but can't prove. For example, we know that the acceleration of an object due to gravity is independent of mass. How do we know this? Drop two balls of different mass and they will hit the ground at the same time. We believe there is life after death. How do we know this? We don't, nor can we prove it. You can't kill a person and then revive them to find the truth.

Thus, the meaning of life can go either way. If you stick to science, it can be explained in simplistic terms. The big bang led to the creation of the universe, our solar system was created, earth life evolved, so on and so forth until the present. However, this belief is hard to maintain. Why did I just call it a belief when I claimed science was what we know? Because there are too many inconsistancies for us to know. Where did the energy that caused the big bang come from? How did everything evolve from a single cell when there are no intermediate forms of species? How was it even possible for such perfect conditions to occur one after another to make Earth suitable for life?

So, suddenly, as you look further in, science is a belief as well. Life is confusing, and the more you think about it, the more confusing it gets. How do we prove our conscience? We can't. There are too many questions that cannot be answered. So, my advice would be to not worry about it right now, you are young and you have more important things to worry about in your life.
