Subject: "This Is My Life, For Better Or For Worse?"

Hello everyone!! This is the question I've chosen followed by my advice.
Cheers.

Question:
I'm 17 and completely lost. One year ago, I attempted suicide. Of course I was hospitalized and spent the rest of the year on anti-depressants and mood stabilizers. I also saw a psychologist and a psychiatrist regularly, constantly telling them, like everyone else, what they wanted to hear. Now, I've graduated from high school and worked out all my problems, I was looking forward to something better. But, I don't feel better and no one seems to be able to help. I'm starting feel as though maybe I shouldn't have called someone after I took those pills. And I know you'll say to think of all the people that care about me and my future. But that's just it, I do that and it doesn't help neither do hospitals and psychiatrists. So what do I do?
age - 17 yrs USA

My suggestion:

Dear N, my opinion is one from a person who has passed through many depressions in life and still believes that there is always a better choice than giving up on living. I think this is a relevant information as I’m going to give you some advice.
First, for you to change your life you have to change your way of thinking. I don’t know exactly the reasons for your depression. There may be many such as rejection, loss of somebody special, longing about the past etc. Anyways, at your age you are still to know many things from life, I mean, real life. You probably live with your parents, have no responsibilities like working, managing a house, you haven’t passed through other experiences that are part of the natural process of life yet. What I want to say with this is that you have so many situations to live that you don’t know what life actually is. I don’t mean I know, because I keep on telling me the same thing when I’m depressed. So, don’t think my discourse is like those you get from the elder, please.
So N, life is much, much, much more than that. You can’t lose the opportunities to learn and meet happiness. Some day you’re gonna look back and see that your desperation taught you many lessons and you’re gonna thank God you’re still here. You certainly have more to live. You’re gonna meet important people in your life, you’re gonna feel pleasure anyway because if there’s something true in this universe is that as pain goes and comes, joy also goes and comes. So, whenever you feel depressed, think it’s gonna pass for sure. “Wait for the sunrise” because it CERTAINLY will come again. After many sad experiences you’ll learn how to cope with them and you’ll be stronger. Keep this on your mind and don’t allow dead time in your life. Always keep in touch with people you love, don’t give chances for pain. Don’t stay hours and hours listening to those sad songs that remind you about bad moments or facts because this way you’ll have motivation to violate your body in whatever means. Think that it could be worse and that you should be thankful for that. It will help you remain firm.
I hope it helps dear; it helps with me and my friends when I tell them these things.
Hugs,

Eliane, 25. Brazil.
