Subject: What is a good friend?

I need to know how to tell the difference between a good friend that you like to talk to and a more devoted friend that you would really like to be a part of your life.

I think the main difference between the two is sincerity. If a friend is sincere to your feelings, they will most likely be one of the “devoted friends.” A good friend would be someone who you can laugh, hang out, and maybe catch a movie with. A devoted friend, in my opinion, will actually care about your day. They will understand when you are sad, happy, or frustrated. They will want to cheer you up and do the smallest things to make you happy. If you are upset, they will try to take care of you. Basically, a devoted friend is one who will be sensitive to your feelings. They will want to share the smallest aspect of their life with you. Lastly, a devoted friend is one who trusts you. If he/she can trust you with telling their deep secrets, then more than likely, you can trust them with your secrets. In the end, I personally believe family is the real ‘devoted friend’ anybody can have. Friends will come and go but family will always be there for you and whether you like it or not, you are stuck with them for life. Families share the deepest secrets because they truly care about you; they always want what is best for you. With friends, it’s sometimes easy to ditch one friend and hang out with another because they are ‘cooler’ or ‘smarter.’ Also, many secrets lie within families and only a member of your family can truly understand that secret. Even if you tell an outsider, they may never understand your feelings because they weren’t there and it doesn’t directly affect them. I am not saying don’t trust any friends with your secrets but what I am trying to say is good friends are hard to find. While you are searching for that good friend however, also rely on your family to get you through some tough times. Dont leave your family for friends.
