Summary: After a hectic twelve days over the holidays, will Chloe finally accept Harm as Mac's soul mate once again?

********************

Harm stood at the gate with Mattie watching Mac hug Chloe one more time. Saying good-bye to the two young women that had been in London to visit them and at the same time Harm's mother and step-father had been here had been wonderful. Holiday time with family was even more special now he and Mac had the babies, but saying good-bye was always hard. Once Chloe was on her way, they would walk to the other end and repeat the process with Mattie.

While Chloe had been all for a Harm and Mac union in the early days, she had cooled off after she was convinced that Mic was the one for Mac...only that hadn't happened. By then she was mad at Harm, so when they had gotten together, Chloe had been reserved with Harm. She had seemed more friendly this visit, so he hoped it was a good sign.

Mattie nudged him. "Dad, are you going to wave good-bye to Chloe or not?"

"Yeah, of course." Harm matched his words and actions as Mac stepped back into his arms for a hug.

"You okay?" Harm murmured.

"I'm fine. We'll talk later," Mac assured him.

Together they walked Mattie to her check-in, Mattie chattering all the way about how much she had enjoyed the visit and playing with the babies. She thanked them all again for the gifts in addition to the airfare which had been more than enough.

Harm burst out laughing.

"What? Dad, why are you laughing?" Mattie asked, hands on her hips.

"I'm really going to miss you," Harm smiled, hugging Mattie the way Mac had Chloe just minutes ago.

"I'll miss all of you, but I love school and I'll have so much to tell everyone when I get back," Mattie said squeezing Harm around the waist again.

"We'll see you next summer when we fly home for a visit. The babies will be old enough to make the trip manageable by then," Mac reminded Mattie before hugging her as well.

"Thanks Mac. Chloe and I plan to stay in touch this time. We got to know each other a little better this visit."

"Good. We love you both, and you're a part of our family, so it's best if you are friends."

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Mattie, but you've got to go," Harm prompted her.

"Thanks Dad. Thanks Mac. I'll email when I get home," Mattie promised as she hurried to catch her flight.

Walking back to their car hand in hand through the busy airport terminal, Harm looked at Mac and grinned, "It's almost quiet... even here... now they've gone home."

"Right and because your mother was nice enough to babysit so we didn't have to bring four-month- old twins to the airport with us," Mac smiled as she leaned into his supporting arm.

"I know. But they leave tonight and we'll be on our own again."

"That's not all bad...I feel like I've hardly held the babies since everyone arrived."

"It was almost a perfect holiday," Harm agreed.

They returned to the car and home recalling various events from the twelve days of company over the holidays. Finally when they were almost at their destination, Harm asked Mac the question that had been burning to get out for days now.

"What did Chloe say about us now she's seen us together?"

"She said that seeing us together is like watching a fire burn," Mac told him.

"Is that good?" Harm wasn't sure a burning fire was good...it could be very destructive in his mind.

"Well, ignore a fire and it burns out. But if you tend to it, take care of it, feed it... it keeps growing bigger - burns brighter," Mac explained.

"And I think we're doing pretty good at that, don't you?" Harm asked.

"Oh yeah. And maybe tonight after the babies are asleep and your parents have left, we can fan the flames a little more."

"Great idea. Hold that thought until later," Harm grinned.

"You got it sailor."

Later that night they did just that.

[> Yea!! Such a happy story ... -- Teacup, 19:15:34 06/12/08 Thu [1]

It's so good to see everything work out for Harm and Mac and that they're keeping the flames of love burning. I'm doubly excited about this just because it was my prompt!! (And I'm glad I didn't track these lines down for nothing!)

It was a great idea to use the lines with Chloe's reaction to them after all these years. I would have liked to have seen more, but I'm not complaining -- this was short, but very sweet!
