The meeting went better than I expected it would. They told us that Monroe businesses already happening would be protected by grandfathering and could continue. They said that farming was always protected in our community. Some of the People at the table didn't know the answers to certain questions but there is a meeting at the planning Commission and they will have those people there to answer questions.
It turned out that although Monroe does NOT have zoning, we do have zoning rules because of the county and state. Those rules seemed like sort of a higher authority znc will take precedence over our zoning anyhow. As an example, the health department doesn't let you keep a pet raccoon-- or at least without a permit. If our Commission said we could have wild animals, the health rules would over ride it (I think.) That's the idea I got.
I expected worse at the Meeting but really it was more about protecting the environment and I'm for that.Go to the meeting on January 22, 2008 and get the real answers from the authorities-- just to be sure.
