Date Posted: 13:17:27 01/13/08 Sun The Planning Commission will meet on January 22nd at 4:30 in the Courthouse at 25 W Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio. At 5:30 our Zoning Commission is scheduled to present their text and material for certification. Members of the Planning Commision can answer questions in regard to how the Monroe Zoning text will relate to current rules of zoning which already affect Monroe Township. (We already ARE governed by laws from the county and state.) Having Monroe zoning MIGHT allow us to have a voice in our own destiny because it would force companies who come here to approach the Trustees and explain what their plans are-- this would be vital in the case of Toxic Waste disposal/storage or a SuperFund site. Otherwise someone could just come in and start the facility without their neighbors knowing. This is the main thing I DO like about zoning. BUT, there are other things that I am not sure about at all. For instance, there was a gentleman at the Jan 9 meeting concerned because he has "potbellied" pigs and he said they were considered an "exotic animal." (Exotic animals are forbidden in our new text UNLESS they are already there. I don't mind his pigs at all and am not afraid of such a thing. But last year a woman in Geauga County was viciously attacked by a bear. Her neighbor had a fur company and he kept them (legally) on his property until the bear escaped. I personally don't want wild animals (lions, tigers and bears... oh my!) kept in cages near my home-- but on the other hand, wouldn't want to penalize the man with his little potbellied pigs. He currently should be protected by grandfathering but I'd want to know that for sure. I'm sure he wants some assurance too. I hope he and others will come ask those questions because zoning will affect every one of us-- some things, as I say are good but we need to know the whole picture! So, come Jan 22nd at 5:30 pm and get answers.See you there! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
