I knew that folks are allowed to own exotic animals but thought they had to register for a permit to do it-- for health reasons. Sort of how folks have to buy dog licenses for their dogs. If that is not true, I would probably be even more interested in the exotic animal portion being included although you are correct, it MUST contain a specific list of "dangerous" animals.... not be so all inclusive or everything that breathes.
Many years ago was a public health nurse in lake County. A guy had a heart attack and was brought in to hospital. Wasn't really coherent or able to talk for several days. When he was, he was in a panic. He had been keeping a bear in his garage and had not been home in a week by then. The bear by then had eaten through the garage and torn up the home-- was frantic and crazy by time officers arrived. I don't want bears, poisonous snakes, lions, leopards etc living on my neighbor's property if there is a chance they will get loose. To me, that's frightening. Do I care about my neighbor's horses, cows, pigs or potbellied pigs? NO! I don't mind lizards, non lethal snakes or iguanas. I agree that the list must be better defined.I am going to ask that at the Jan 22 meeting.
I too was concerned about Mr. Riley's question but only because I've learned from experience not to trust him. He was against zoning before we began this trek and will say or do anything to turn folks against it.I want to at least have an open mind-- which he doesn't. His record and behavior at the Trustee Meetings has caused me to seriously doubt his ability to present issues in the most honest manner. He's just playing a game with this! It's shameful.
I was more against the zoning until the last meeting but felt better once I heard what they did. I was afraid we'd be told to have 1 color mailbox or other stupid rules that have no purpose and should not be anyone's business. I mostly care about land water health safety! I sat on the Ashtabula CAP committee for several years and know a great deal about toxic waste and superfund sites. They sneaked that huge facility into Kingsville (Creek Rd) without anyone catching on until it was too late. Thankfully it's cleaned up now but I definitely don't want anything like that. I care about those kinds of issues. I don't want zoning involved in regulating home businesses etc. That's for sure. Like anything else, it seems to have pluses and minuses.
