I last synched successfully a few days ago (I use Outlook 2000). Now, HotSync seems unable to determine the User. I changed nothing on my Palm or on my PC but the following morning it would not synch.
On the PC the HotSync Progress dialog appears but the User: field is blank. On the Palm, the HotSync screen appears but gets stuck at the "Connecting with the desktop using Direct Serial" message. The PC and the Palm are at least initiating a session but that's as far as it goes. After a short time, it times out and I get the HotSync Problem dialog.
I've restarted my PC and reset the Palm, but that didn't help. I've checked the connections, all were tight but I unplugged them and re-connected them just to be sure.
I sent Palm support an e-mail, they suggested:
1) Checking the connection in the cradle
2) Lowering the connection speed
3) Refreshing the ConnectionDB file
I followed their instructions on all three suggestions but no joy. Earlier today, I uninstalled the Palm Desktop and re-installed it. I also took the opportunity to upgrade to the lastest Desktop software and HotSync 4.0. I'm still getting the same error. That suggests to me that the problem is on the Palm, perhaps the user info somehow got corrupt.
