Argentina has adopted the Japanese standard for digital television, following two other South American countries, Brazil and Peru.

The adoption was announced on Friday at the western town of Bariloche, where the 12 South American countries' summit, the UNASUR meeting, began earlier in the day.

The 2 countries will establish a joint committee to spread facilities for digital TV. The committee will also discuss technical cooperation.
Countries are changing TV transmitting standards from analog to digital because digital allows more channels.
