Hi Will,
I can't speak for everyone, but that's basically what happened to me. I never consciously decided to smoke more. I found that when times were stressful I'd smoke more because I enjoyed inhaling, the buzz, and the relaxation. But then you get used to smoking, you don't get the same buzz. Sure, to satisfy a craving, especially if you hold out for a while, feels great, but without great control, the addiction will take over, and you could end up smoking 2 packs a day like me, and not enjoying it nearly as much.
So, here is my advice. It is entirely about willpower. If you have any doubts about your ability to keep smoking at an enjoyable level, you should quit now while it's easy. Otherwise, be very careful.
