Hey Linda,
Smoking definitely does how me relax (though it can be energizing as well). But I smoke a pack plus a day, so strss is always accompanied by, and probably brings on, cravings - which are of course relieved by smoking! I think it also helps that when I'm dragging on a cigarette and inhaling the smoke I'm taking deeper breaths than normal, which is in itself relaxing.
