So, now people will be forced to be in education or training until 18. Why not simply provide the apprentiships, training etc and the funding to go with it so that they choose to go as opposed to mooching about with nothing to do and no money.

Why do Governments choose compulsion? You cannot make someone learn. You can force them to go to college, but then what? Which poor unfortunate teacher/lecturer is now gonig to have to cope with dozens of 16-18 year olds who are only there because they are compelled? All that will happen is that 16-18 year old education will become a battle ground, with keen students the losers as it becomes all about keeping the minority forced to be there to not riot or disrupt.

That isnt education or training. The politicians just use educationa establishments as a dumping ground. Its about reducing the unemployment figures just before an election, I guess. God, how I have so little respect for these politicians and theri self serving policies.
