Subject: Free Speech?

" A debate at the Oxford Union was delayed when protesters forced their way into a university building.
BNP leader Nick Griffin and controversial historian David Irving were invited to talk about free speech."

Im not sure about this situation. I dislike the views expressed by these two, and find them repugnant, but im not sure they should be prevented from speaking. There are laws about incitement to hatred etc so they have to watch what they say, and can be brought to court if they do break the laws contolling what can be said. If we prevent them from speaking, on what grounds? Who else? Where do we draw the line? Who draws the line?

It would have been better if they had not been invited and given them the platform and publicity they crave, and I criticise the Oxford Union for doing that, but as an organisation, they have the right to invite them if they so wish.

What do others think? To find myself seemingly defending these people sends a really distateful feeling through me.
