Well, our newscasters feel they have to resort to interpreting to make sense of what our politicians say, so what's the diff?

I think we have to interpret because the literal words of the Bible are a bit inconsistent unless you can divine some context to match up the Bible's literal words with what we know in our hearts about God.

The thing about the commandments is that they are rules which, if followed, are good for you. Buddhists avoid coveting like the plague, because it wears people down.

Even the commandment "Honour thy father and thy mother" contains the reason "that thy days may be long...." If you honour your parents, your children will follow your example. It works for me.

I do find that as I get older, it is easier not to sin.... :)
