Itching was first invented in 1345, by Dr Horace Itching, after whom it has been named. At first it was very popular and his fame spread far and wide until Mr Charles Fortesque Scratching invented a rival product. For several years the two inventors were deadly enemies. One could not walk into a coffee shoppe in London without the sound of itching and scratching. Finally, after the intervention of the King, who got fed up with all this itching and scratching, they realised that their products were actually complementary, and so they collaborated, finally merging their two companies into one of the first multinationals.
After many years, name changes new products etc, the firm still exists, its called Haliburton. Whilst no longer owning the patent to itching or scratching, they have never forgotten their roots, and even to this day are able to say with confidence, if not pride, that they have 57 ways to get under people's skin and be a major irritant.
