I am hoping to have the first draft done within the next eight months or so. After that it goes to a circle of readers and I start re-writes from their patient notes and insertions. My beta readers are hugely important to me. There is just so much you miss as the writer of the work, I've been over it so many times by then that I see what I think ought to be there on the page, rather than what is. My brain seems to just automatically supply the correct phrasing and so then I think it's there. Plus it takes a long time for a book to detach itself from the author's liver, as another writer friend of mine put it- so sometimes things don't flow as well as they should, but I simply can't see it.
