Subject: Mermaid in a Bowl of Tears, Ch. 15, Caught in the Crosshairs



The jig is up. Pamela learns from agent Gus that his bosses no longer need her help in bringing down Love Hagerty's operation.

Hagerty, working with Mark Ryan and apparently ready to go legit, is going to give up information to the FBI that will bring down the Basarelli family.

Blackie is also going to be taken down by Hagerty; the location of the body of Cassandra Neil, one of Blackie's former girlfriends, has been disclosed by Hagerty. And Blackie's current love interest is missing, presumed dead.

Gus hints that Guilio Bassarelli would be very grateful to learn about Love's newfound interest with the FBI. Pamela knows that revealing this information means certain death for Love Hagerty.

Pamela has two days to decide her future, and Casey's.

Mermaid in a Bowl of Tears, Ch. 16, All the Way Home



Casey has returned to Boston. It's a cold Saturday night as Casey observes the party scene. Hagerty is aware that Casey is outside, looking in.

A silhouette of Pamela appears in the library window. Casey does not recognize the elegant dress she is wearing. However, he does recognize that, while he would never be comfortable in such an elite setting, Pamela fits in perfectly.

Casey, exhausted but charged with adrenaline, creates a scene as he pushes his way into Hagerty's home, calling for his wife. He displays Olie's blood money in front of the guests. As Hagerty asks him to join him in the library, Casey passes out.

When he comes to, Casey tells Pamela to get her wrap, he is taking her home. Seeing his seriousness, she leaves to retrieve her wrap. Casey and Hagerty are alone in the library, where they confront each other's treacherous motives.

Hagerty tells Casey that every man ~ and woman ~ has a price.
