• I love seeing them getting settled into their new house and beginning to turn it into a home. Partly, I think, because I know they've had such heartache and have more to come. It's the chaos and trouble that make us appreciate the quiet and calm. I also loved the ritual of lighting the fire and saying the blessing.   • I agree with you, we have lost something as our culture has progressed. I think it would be better if, despite all our modern conveniences like furnaces and a/c, that we still followed the rhythm of the seasons, and that we purchased food grown locally (so, no peaches or tomatoes in November - 'tis okay, others survived before us without those!). I am trying to become a locavore, haven't quite managed it entirely but it's a fun process. And I do try to follow the rhythms that come with the tilting of the earth. I love the change of seasons; we should celebrate those changes by adding those little rituals that have an ageless significance. Hope I don't sound too sentimental for you.     • I think we'd all be much more healthy mentally and emotionally if we moved more with the rhythm of the planet and its seasons. I do try to pay attention and have small rituals to attend the changing of the seasons, it really helps to make one feel that time isn't just this non-stop flow over one's head too.   • I wish I had an open hearth in my kitchen, I would love that. One of the things I most look forward to on the Shindig is sitting around a fire one evening, talking with drinks in hand.   • I love sitting by the fire too or on the deck in the summer. I wish we still had a 'real' fireplace instead of this crappy gas model. It's convenient, flip an on switch but I miss the crackling sound and the smell.
