Chapter 32: Given Lawrence's history I think it's not a far stretch for Casey to make the assumption he did. And I think we all overreact more often that we'd like to admit, especially on such emotionally fraught issues. If Casey hadn't recently caught Lawrence with somebody else's wallet full of cash, he may have been less hasty and more calm. Pamela's telling Lawrence about her rape shows him that not only can Casey love somebody who's not "pure", but that it's possible to build a good life for one's self after such horrific experiences. I started crying softly when Lawrence thought that Pamela was going to tell him to leave and that she and Casey did not want him living with them anymore. Bless his heart. I think her answer about Lawrence being family and that Casey loves him no matter what meant the world to Lawrence. It's a shame and so heart-breaking that children have to grow up not knowing they are loved unconditionally and that the love is given with sincerity and pure intentions.
