Subject: Each side does their fair share of "joking"

Regardless of whether you think he was talking about the 14 year old or the 18 year old, I think everyone is in agreement that the "joke" was inappropriate and not funny. Republicans also say stupid things that are meant to be a joke but aren't funny by any stretch of the imagination. For example (I can't remember how to post a link, so cut and paste if it isn't):

I don't understand how people are trying to turn this into a political issue. As far as I know, David Letterman isn't a spokesperson for the Democratic Party. While I believe he most definitely has a liberal slant to most things political, he shouldn't be in the same category as Rush Limbaugh or any other political commentator; he doesn't appear at political conventions or speak for the Democratic party at large like Rush does. He's a comedian. He tries to make people laugh and sometimes he steps in a huge, steaming pile.

I can see where Letterman has a point. Like most people, when I heard about the joke, I immediately thought of Bristol. I had forgotten that Sarah Palin had a 14-year-old daughter. Yeah, their writers should have been a little more vigilant about getting the facts straight. But, IMHO, if you think that David Letterman's joke actually condones statutory rape and, therefore all liberals/democrats must also condone it, you're up in the night.
