Subject: Letterman - or is it just me????

from the very start (early 80's) I have been a huge Letterman fan. I was even sort of snobbish about it, to tell the truth. I thought people who didn't "get it" were just... well, not so bright.

Please also keep in mind that I have a pretty good sense of humor. I laughed at Bush jokes... I guffawed at words like "mis-underestimated".

About a year ago it got to where I couldn't watch Letterman anymore because he got so hateful. Admittedly, I watch a lot of news, probably more than is healthy, truth be told, but I have always kept a sense of humor. Most nights, I think Jon Stewart is hilarious. Not as funny as Olbermann, but still (come on, you gotta laugh at a guy that says things like "up with which we shall not put!!!!). But I don't want hate from my late night shows, I want comic relief.

Anyway, I really looked forward to a post-Bush Letterman. I have watched the last two nights, his first since the inauguration. It is the same old shit. Bush jokes, Palin/McCain jokes, Clinton jokes.... NO Obama jokes, btw. And Monday night he went off on a rant against the Governor of New York for not selecting the "lovely" Caroline Kennedy. I guess he has inside info that she is not the problem, He is.

When did he become a pundit? I know he has always been a curmudgeon, it was part of his charm, but I just can't see it anymore.

I just can't help wondering if it is me. Do you guys that lean left still think he is funny?

I used to like his show, but for a long time now I thought he was tired and old and NOT funny at all! I don't watch that show very often, maybe once a month, and only if he has an interesting guest. I HATED all those digs, not jokes, at Bush, and Palin, and all the other politicos. He's not funny he's sad.

Hey, for once we agree! ;-)))LOL

I know a little something about the situation in NY. I'm a New Yorker and I live in Kirsten Gillibrand's congressional district. Many New Yorkers were not thrilled with Caroline Kennedy's candidacy for Hillary's senate seat, but almost everyone seems to be outraged at Gov. Paterson's treatment of her. People close to Paterson went out of their way to trash CK AFTER she had withdrawn her name from consideration. Check the NY papers to see the reaction to this situation. Paterson is toast in the next gov. election and his lame semi-apologies haven't helped.

which show has someone I want to see as a guest/musical guest and watch those parts. My preference in late night talkies is actually Jimmy Kimmel. Leno and Letterman have both become repetitive in their monologues and gags. If I don't have work the next day, I sometimes check out Craig Ferguson, or Conan if he has Triumph the Insult Comic Dog on (otherwise, Conan annoys me). I hold Jon Stewart above the rest though and don't include him in that late-night talk show category LOL!
