I'm just curious. It seems to me that if Linda simply wanted to make sure the Waterfront was on the agenda for the election and the next administration, it would have been easy enough for her to go to Mike O'Hara and get an agreement from him.
She's chair of the City Democratic Committee, so she should have been able to see to it that a plank to that effect was included in the Party platform, no?
So why deny Mike the Democratic endorsement in the first place, and then split the party and its resources unnecessarily in a vain primary fight that really can't do anyone any good?
Does she really believe, that after two fairly convincing losses, Hudson is now ready for Linda Mussmann for Mayor?
I know she was convinced, when I tried to talk her out of running and into seeking an alternative candidate in 2001 - that she could win. But she didn't.
Now she must be convinced again - but I can't see what - other than the victories of 2005 - would give her the idea that she can now win - especially after going through what can't help but be a draining - financially and energetically - primary race.
Unfortunately, it just reinforces my misgivings about Linda's abilities as a team-player - the very failing that makes her a poor prospect, IMHO, for Mayor.
Linda - If you're out there, I like to hear the reasons you feel the need to challenge Mike O'H - who I think is a good candidate who can beat Rick.
What was wrong with the idea of uniting the Democratic Party and the other forces that want to resist Hudson's slide into the past, rather than creating more factionalism and in-fighting?
As Party Chair, aren't you supposed to be promoting party unity? If you didn't support Mike's bid, why didn't you step up during the nominating process and put your own name forward, if that's what you wanted?
I can't help but see your actions as weakening and dividing the opposition to the Good-Old-Boys, and making it more likely, rather than less, that they could pull out an victory in November, in spite of their weakness.
I'd really like to understand the reasoning behind your actions and I hope you'll take the time to explain them at some point.
