Subject: Looking for advance

Looking for advance ?
At a bit of a lost end here, as to wether to move my daughter class or not? At class the teachers just ignore dd and don't bother to watch or talk to her at a feis. When asked for advance on how is can improve we just get keep working hard. She never gets picked to do any new steps, teams etc. just for the favourites at class. And after a feis if we have been away or at home teacher never ask how she did or give any feedback but will to the other dancers that have danced. Now my dd works very hard,like all the kids and goes to every feis that I can take her to and is in top 5 at every feis. now I know teachers are busy and needs to think about others in class but this is been over a year and we paid the same money as everyone else. Am not saying moving class is the answer or the other teachers won't have their favourites just that both me and my dd are very unhappy and don't think teachers are very helpful or interested in dd. the teachers and everyone at class are lovely people but I need to start thinking what's best for my dd and her further. If we do want to move class can anyone recommend a class?

- Would just like her to get the same attention as the other kid and not to be left out. Even at a feis teachers gets other kid ready and warmed up and my dd left and they never watch her but make a great point to stand watching the others.   - This is quite a common problem in Irish Dancing, particularly in the Scottish Region, however I thought with more schools opening, and parents not putting up with the BS anymore, this practice would be on the dwindle. (NT) -- If TCs don't think you are committed as a parent, and treat only as a 'hobby' I can see their point in giving more time to kids that take it seriously, however if you and your dd wish to take it seriously, just move schools, believe me at this current time, some schools are desperate for dancers., 22:26:21 08/01/15 Sat
    - No my dd and I do that it very seriously, at every class and go to every feis nearly every weekend. Always at fund raisers, shows etc. always working on steps. And as for the other kids at class she is betting them at feises. I want her to keep improving and being pushed. In the further she wants to do shows and do her teachers.       - Well my advice is, move. BUT....make sure you get results to annoy your old TC. No point moving if they can't improve you. If a new TC can't get better results, your child just doesn't have it. (NT) -- Plenty of recent transfers have done amazing, I think the antics and the behaviour of the old TCs speaks volumes.         Where you should go depends on so many factors. How old is your dancer? What level? Are you willing to travel? Personally I wouldn't go to a school with a champ in the same age group. There are so many good schools in Scotland to choose from and thankfully some very good newer schools popping up in results. (NT) -- Good luck, 09:48:34 08/02/15 Sun
        Agree, you would have to give more information to pinpoint a certain school out, also a lot of people like myself have been involved in ID for years, so personally I would avoid certain teachers like the plague, for various reasons.         Dd is in open and is in top 5 at every feis here or away. Dd is a WQ. Don't want to say age group just in case TCs see. Willing to travel any where for the right school. Over the last year or so there has been lost of dancers that's left and only a few that have join. In my option the very good dancing in the class are starting to fall, not getting same results what they were getting last year. It's such a hard decision don't want to be in the same situation again but when talking to the new TCs I will be telling them what I want and see if they can give it. Don't see why you shouldn't be able to talk to TCs straight (without be cheeky) without all the hidden msgs. I was looking at Caroline Green, Sharon Taylor, Stewart or Coyle all very different class.         Stewart do teams, which is a great thing for kids to get involved in, and seem nice, genuine people, with up and coming dancers. CG has really pulled a few top dancers out the bg recently, she seems able to play and keep up with the big guns. (NT) -- ST another good school, very passionate. Coyle very new, haven't seen much although the Mother knows ID in and out, would say if your child has potential they would be able to get her to the top, look at SC, that was not MCL's work, that was her Mother., 20:17:58 08/02/15 Sun
        Another piece of advice, I wouldn't go in all guns blazing to a new TC demanding this and that. Also don't slate your old school willy nilly to the gossiping mothers in new school either, no matter if you want to fit in or not, believe me, they just want the gossip.         Sharon Taylor and Caroline Greene would be the most obvious choices. Stewart school had some good results at the BN's then there's the Osborne's who also do very well. (NT) -- I'm sure with Suzanne and her mother teaching, Coyle will be a great school and as above poster says if your child has potential I'm sure they could get her to the top. Possibly just looking for advise as stated, moving is hard but you have to be sure when moving. Most recent transfers have been succesful and there are still others to return. (NT) -- Got a feeling on age group and a possible hunch., 15:42:07 08/04/15 Tue

A few of these schools have opened and shut like ST and Coyle and others. Happens quite a lot in this region and that is only the ones I know. So maybe be best going some where like McL that doesn't shut (NT) -- Just a thought, 10:41:52 08/06/15 Thu
