Ok, Adriana, you surely understand what the authors mean by context-embedding. In a context-embedded piece of discourse we know who is talking to whom about what under which circumstances. This is the context – the story behind what someone is saying. More formal uses of the language rely more on the code than on the context. You’re right there too. The more contextual information we provide, the easier it will be for learners to make links with what they already know, helping them to learn faster. So we have two concepts here: a) contextualization and b) shared knowledge. Both help the learning process and teachers should try to contextualize the language they teach so as to activate what learners already know (their shared knowledge) and add to it the new piece of information.
